Denver Natural Stone: Popular Countertop Edge Profiles

December 21, 2021

Countertops are a major surface area in both kitchens and bathrooms across the country. Even more than floors and wall colors, homeowners tend to focus on which countertop will look best in their space and for good reason. Not only do these surfaces receive plenty of use but they also often set the tone in each of these areas. As a large component within each room - countertops, their material, color, and one other key component, all combine to make the decision making anything but easy.

Whether you are renovating a space by adding countertops or installing within a new construction there is one minor detail that can actually have a major impact. Don’t get lost focusing on material and color because the edges also need attention. A wide variety of kitchen countertop options ensures that homeowners will be able to get precisely what they are looking for but shouldn’t forget about the importance of edge detail in the process.

Eased

Eased countertops are a quality choice for individuals who prefer a more modern style and clean cut lines. These edges are squared off at every angle all the way around an installation. One of the most common options, eased edges do create obvious sight lines but can also be dangerous depending on unique household situations. Such a design creates sharp corners and edges throughout the entire perimeter of a countertop.

Bullnose

Bullnose is a bit safer because those hardened corners become rounded at all exposed edges. This eliminates the sharp corners creating a smooth edge where installed. In addition, there are multiple variances of the bullnose option which can be combined to create a variety of different designs. These variations include components combining both the eased and bullnose options for a few more variations.

Bevel

For a more elegant look, bevel options utilize a slope off the initial surface layer combined with an eased side. The 45-degree drop off and finalized line gives a sense of depth to the edges where installed.

Waterfall

Another edge style that has recently been gaining popularity in homes is the waterfall. These edges extend onto sides as the countertop surface extends down along either the cabinets, a pedestal, or simply to the ground. This can put a real focal point on your countertop surface and help to add even more material when selecting this option.
